Each day of the Donegal Camino offers a stunning and dedicated walk including a magical coastal loop walk of Malin, The majestic Knockalla Mountain Ridge, Hornhead Loop, Sunrise on Donegal’s highest peak Errigal, a trip off shore to Gaeltacht island of Toraigh – Tory, followed by beautiful Assaranka Waterfall and Maghera Ardara loop before finishing on a high at Europe’s highest Sea Cliffs, Sliabh Liag.

The voluntary organizing committee are most grateful for the support of Donegal Tourism, Fáilte Ireland, Gallagher’s Bakehouse, 3 D Personnel, Sendmode and Donegal Airport for their generous sponsorship. The Donegal Camino has also received wonderful anonymous donations and of course the fundraising efforts of each individual walker is staggering in their generosity. There is still plenty time to donate via www.donegalcamino.ie and its idonate page.

Led by founder and Inishowen business woman, Peggy Stringer along with Deirdre McGlone former owner of Harvey’s Point, TV personality and Cancer Care West Board Member, Noel Cunningham, Noreen D’Arcy of D’Arcy Marketing & PR and John Mc Namara of Sendmode, the committee are keen to make 2023’s Donegal Donation the biggest yet to Cancer Care West at €75,000. Since 2020, €76,500 has been generated.

“Cancer Care West is delivering phenomenal support services across Donegal and in its support centre in Letterkenny,” says Noel Cunningham Cancer Care West Board Member and Harvey’s Point Ambassador, “ the Donegal Camino is rapidly becoming one of the largest fundraising events on the Cancer charities fundraising calendar. It meets so many amazing criteria not least of all from a physical and mental health perspective as a 7 day unique walking festival. Combine this with the people who walk and their personal ambitions for their Donegal Camino along with our breathtaking scenery, superb walking and hiking and warmest and most welcoming hospitality, delicious food, brilliant music and craic – so of course we’ve got a unique jewel in the crown of the Northwest which will continue to deliver more and more”.

Founder Peggy Stringer delights in the funds raised so far and says, “we invite businesses and individuals from all across Donegal and beyond to continue to pledge their support for Cancer Care West.” Deirdre McGlone is as always beyond passionate about the opportunity to showcase “our spectacular walking and tourism product and thanks the amazing support of Donegal Tourism and Fáilte Ireland who along with Gallagher’s Bakehouse, 3 D Personnel, Sendmode, Harvey’s Point, Simple Simon’s Health Foods and Donegal Airport have given us a most comfortable cushion of support for our fundraising endeavours”.

Noreen D’Arcy of D’Arcy Marketing & PR in Galway who’s strong Donegal connections is very grateful to all of the Donegal Media and national media who’ve supported this year’s Donegal Camino Campaign. Alongside fellow volunteer John Mc Namara of Donegal company Sendmode and the committee have worked on creating a brand new website for www.donegalcamino.ie which has made registrations and fundraising more seamless for all involved.

The 2023 Donegal Camino will once again be guided by the award winning Donegal walking guide John Mc Groary of John’s Walking Ireland who will be joined by Joe Coyle, Denis Sheridan and Mick Devaney. Together they will safely guide and entertain walkers between Sunday 3rd and Saturday 9th of September. As always the Donegal Camino will present a few surprises along the route.
